U3Acoustic is a guitar group based in Ravenshead and has been playing together for over 10 years. Our main aim is to improve the ability of all members of the group by learning new techniques and playing songs. Hopefully we learn and have fun at the same time and enjoy performing for other organisations.
Having successfully managed our way through Covid by holding some ‘mini sessions’ in the open air, supported by Zoom sessions, we were back in full swing in 2022. Since then we have added many new songs to our repertoire and also welcomed a few new members during 2024 which means the group is officially ‘full’. We continue to do performances for many local organisations and even ventured into Lincolnshire in 2014 to entertain 100 people who were celebrating their 60th Anniversary playing many appropriate 60s songs for them.
U3Acoustic Guitar Group
Ravenshead Guitar Group, based primarily on the Acoustic Guitar, is now well established with around 20 regular members. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Many of the group, with both ladies and gents involved, were beginners but are developing well.
The sessions are very participatory and we try to learn something new each meeting, whilst devoting considerable time to review, as people learn at different speeds. The group is based on having lots of fun whilst learning and is largely ‘theory-free’.
There is a cost to group members of around £1.50 per session which covers hire of the venue and handouts.
Much of what we do is based on learning chords and using these with various different styles of accompaniment. A wide range of genres of music are visited, from both traditional and modern folk, to more popular songs and occasional blues.
Handouts, including techniques and resources, are provided to aid learning and practice These are available for members in a password protected area of this website.
We frequently appear at special events for community groups to provide musical entertainment. Audiences largely range from 25 to 100 people.
A wide range of musical genres is covered, encouraging our audiences to join in with the music.
